Reclaiming the Aphrodisiac History of the Avocado

Once upon a time, long long ago, the beloved fleshy fruit known as the avocado had been so controversial, virgin daughters were banned from venturing outside during avocado harvests as it was thought that the plants inflamed the lust of the farmers who picked the fruit.
The etymology of “avocado” stems from a Nahuatl word, “ahuacatl” meaning “testicle” which may have lead to the plant’s lusty, scandalous associations within Aztec communities.
Although archaeologists have confirmed that the avocado was an essential food source for the Aztecs as early as 7000 BC there are many theories surrounding the origin of the avocado.
Similar to avocados, the fatty flesh of a woman is carefully concealed by the leathery appearance of skin. Occasionally the skin is tough, wrinkled, worn and weathered with indents from years of aging. Other times the skin appears smooth and untouched. Although we, women are constantly being told to shrink ourselves by mainstream media, we must remember that the fatty flesh is full of benefits. Often health specialists and nutritionists speak of “good fats” found within the flesh of avocados and we left wonder what are ‘good fats’? Good fats are essential for normal growth and development of the central nervous system and healthy brain functioning. Good fats bring women the strength and resilience that is necessary for them to be the best version of themselves.
Looking deeper into this flesh prison, you will find a heart (seed) made of magic. Not only do these seeds lower high cholesterol, high blood pressure, reduce inflammatory conditions, diabetes, and boost your immunity. The seeds even have insecticidal, fungicidal, and antimicrobial properties. Although we can find dye properties in many, many plants, the pit of an avocado is special in that it contains magical tannins acting as a mordant that binds well to cotton fibers. Without a mordant, avocado seeds produce light to deep pink shades and russet reds. These colors associated with feminine energy evoke the magic and spirit of women. Yes, the flesh of an avocado is mesmerizing and delicious on its own but please consider the existence of an elusive pit, full of unknown potential.
Finding worth in one self, like finding use of avocado pits requires research and awareness. The worth of an avocado and the self worth of a woman cannot be sought externally, self worth comes internally through the appreciation of the unseen.
