#SumthinATL: The Experience

If you live in Atlanta you know that there are tons of music showcases to attend. What made SumthinATL special was the  welcoming feeling. From the entrance alone you could hear the voices of the crowd shouting “That’s my song”. The energy, the crowd, the performers were unforgettable! If you came to sit down this is not the event for you. DJ Lavi kept the crowd going with tunes that were truly diverse. There's a lot of good DJs around Atlanta, but none that I have seen who could play a trap song then go to a  Panic At The Disco or Fall Out Boy hit to a throwback Outkast classic. He felt the crowd.  He really knew his audience and it showed through to the end. Not only did the music grab the crowd’s attention, but the energetic and warm vibe from Plewto Smith hosting made you want to constantly dance. His ability to work the crowd and get everyone involved was quite a sight to see. From the music to the lovely people on the dance floor hitting the the running man vigorously, the mammal gallery was full of nothing but love.

Not only did Dj Lavi and Plewto Smith feed my soul with constant energy and jams; Grilled Cheese Papi worked the stage as he whipped up grilled cheese sandwiches and threw them in the crowd. Who would’ve known, Grilled Cheese could be the highlight of the night. You could feel the excitement in the building as  sandwiches went soaring across the room, that was truly a unique experience. The southern hospitality was definitely present when one of the curators came up and asked if we were having a good time. You rarely find that at events in the city. Chivalry is not dead.
The showcase had a nice mix of artists who all had their unique talents and great stage presence. We were able to check out Far Out Family, Fleetwood Fred, Angel White, and Command.Far Out Family had the crowd going once they stepped onto the stage. The crowd was bumping to their songs and fed off their high energy. Far Out Family features Glenn Sadler and Bias the Black. Their sound was very unique with sounds that give off old Atlanta meets new Atlanta vibes. Next to perform was Angel White a singer with the mesmerizing voice . She immediately grabbed the crowd’s attention with her poofy hair and converse, she was a beautiful performer. Angel was adorable and full of energy dancing on stage to soca beats  you couldn’t help but become an immediate fan.

What’s a music showcase without the dirty, southern codeine vibes? Fleetwood Fred appeared to show the audience how the south really gets down. Fleetwood  is a rapper that definitely gives you that southern rapper vibes reminiscent of a flow like Pimp C. His lyrics are smooth and his presence on stage was mind boggling. If you haven’t had the ultimate southern experience Fleetwood Fred is definitely the right person to give it to you. Command was the last performer of the night, but he definitely was one to remember. He gave me  Common vibes with his lyrics and overall stage presence. Command is a perfect name for him because he will grab your attention. I appreciated how personal he got with his music, he was a great ending to a great showcase. At the end of the night the love didn’t stop there everyone was invited to take a gigantic group picture for the memories. I can honestly say that this was a night to remember. This is not goodbye SumthinATL, it’s only the beginning, until next time.
